The 4 in 1 ESCs shine through compactness and avoid miles of power wires on the multi-rotor. But if one of the ESCs grids, the whole plate must be changed. X-Racer innovated with the Quadrant 25A, an ESC 4 in 1 that allows to remove the defective part and to replace it. The concept has very strongly inspired the manufacturer Racerstar, which offers the Star20 Detachable. The principle is the same: it is made of 4 independent ESC and assembled into a kind of puzzle (very easy level).
Very easy ?
Changing an ESC requires a bit of welding skills. In order to change a workpiece, remove the central weld ("+"), two welds "-" (center and edge), 3 welds for the motor supply wires (on the outer edges) , 1 welding to the flight controller, and possibly a weld corresponding to the "+" or to the "-" of the general power supply. So a total of 7 or 8 welds. Is a detachable ESC 4 in 1 an effective solution to independent ESCs?
Not necessarily…
7 or 8 welds, it is not really practical ... Note that it is also necessary that the ESC are available to the unit, which is not the case for the moment for the Racerstar. The price ? The Racerstar Star20 Detachable will be offered at less than 29 € at Banggood (with port but duty free). For comparison, the Quadrant 25A is $ 49.99 at FPVmodel (with port, excluding taxes). Note that Racerstar pushed the inspiration until producing a promotional photo with back-to-back ESCs similar to that of X-Racer (see below).
Additionally, if you happen need to purchase some rc quads, you can search via Banggood website, which is one of the wholesale platform to provide affordable prices, such as CG035 Quadcopter, Skywalker X2, etc.
